PRINCE………THANK YOU!

Prince.

What can I say that hasn’t already been said. He was a music legend.
I think the first Prince song I heard was “When Doves Cry.” It was 1984-1985, and a small group of kids had used it as part of their act in a talent show. And I remember when 1999 seemed like a loooooooong ways off. “U Got the Look” with Sheena Easton was out on the radio when I was a young teenager, and I was in high school when “Diamonds and Pearls” came out. There were many, many, many great songs in between from him. And if you truly love the song, “Purple Rain,” you absolutely HATE how the song almost always gets cut off at the end when played on the radio – I mean, Prince’s guitar solo and high-octave voice are what make that song, I think!

I didn’t know WHAT to call him during that time he changed his name to “that” symbol – I mean, “the Artist Formerly Known as Prince” is just too long to say, so I just kept calling him Prince.

As many others have said, I grew up to his music. There’s no way I can name a favorite song, because he had so many different styles. The first and only Prince concert I got to go to was during his Musicology tour, and he came to the Palace of Auburn Hills in June 2004. Wow, that guy could work a guitar. And all I can say is – like with Michael Jackson (died in 2009), Heavy D (died in 2011), and Whitney Houston (died in 2012) before him – heaven’s got a lot more music now. I know this is a time when people will start trying to dig up dirt on him – can we just be grateful for the music Prince and these other artists left us with, and let them rest in peace? NONE of us on this earth are perfect – therefore, who are we to judge? I’m happy to have grown up in an era that had so many wonderful musicians, and music that lasts for a lifetime, not fades away after being played out for a few weeks.
